Trends | LinkedIn Begins University Pages

LinkedIn for high school students“It’s not just for old people with heavy briefcases — it’s for you,” is how the new pitch goes on a video from LinkedIn, announcing their intent to make their services available to a much younger crowd. Impacting teens, including high school and college age students, the Facebook for business networking is now in the process of making their services available to students to explore post-secondary schools worldwide. In a statement from Christina Allen, Director of Product Management at LinkedIn, she explains the LinkedIn feature “University Pages” as “especially valuable for students making their first, big decision about where to attend college.” Therefore, beginning on September 12, 2013, she explains, “we will be making LinkedIn available to high school students who can use LinkedIn to explore schools worldwide, greatly expand their understanding of the careers available, and get a head start on building a network of family and friends to help guide them at every milestone.” Some 200 universities have now adopted their pages, including NYU, UC San Diego, U Michigan, RIT and more. Over the next few weeks, thousands more schools will be given access to their University Pages.
