Cool Tool | zSpace

CREDIT zSpaceVirtual reality is taking over classrooms around the country, thanks to zSpace. From dissecting human hearts, diving into volcanoes or testing physics outcomes in Jupiter’s gravity, students are experiencing the next generation of immersive learning without teachers having to worry about limited supplies or student safety. The technology, developed by Silicon Valley company zSpace, Inc., is a futuristic hardware and software system that brings abstract concepts to life. A zSpace STEM lab consists of a set of student virtual reality stations and a teacher station, each outfitted with a custom stylus as well as a wide variety of educational software. Three dimensional holographic images can be “lifted” from the screen and manipulated with the stylus. Some applications provide multi-sensory feedback; for example, students working with a virtual heart can see the blood moving through it as well as feel it beating. The continuously growing zSpace education software library currently includes applications in STEM subjects ranging from physics and engineering to zoology, and more are in development for non-STEM subjects such as history and architecture.
