Cool Tool | Edreports.org

In spring and summer of 2014, EdReports.org went on a “listening tour” with nearly 500 educators from across the country to gather input about the instructional materials they use in their districts and schools. These educators ranged in roles and experience, spanning from pre-Kindergarten through high school, and the majority of teachers had more than seven years teaching experience. During the tour, they heard overwhelming support for their mission of providing independent, consumer report-like reviews of such materials. Although 82 percent of educators surveyed believe that the Common Core State Standards, if implemented correctly, will better prepare today’s students for college and careers, only one-third of those surveyed say their instructional materials are aligned to the standards. The need for these reviews is immediate, and they have built their process and timeline to meet the need of educators across the country. Funded by Broadcom Corporation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Helmsley Charitable Trust, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Samueli Foundation, the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, and the Stuart Foundation, Edreports.org is headed up by Eric Hirsch, formerly with the New Teacher Center and National Conference of State Legislatures. More about Eric and the Edreports.org approach in an upcoming interview.
