EdTech Digest Awards Program 2016 | Energizing Education
From old school to new school, 21st-century education is in the midst of a paradigm shift. Chalkboards have given way to smartboards, desktop clutter to digital clean, disparate data to dashboard clarity, and isolated teachers to connected educators. Yet while evidence of the power of technology’s transformative effect on matters of learning is all around us, the power to energize education still lies within us. With this year’s program, the dark corners of education are illuminated by brilliant minds at work resolving the challenges educators and students face. Untangling the toughest challenges are resilient souls skipping a can’t-be-done approach for workable, can-do solutions. With new technologies, the age-old purpose of raising the knowledge and ability level of our students and thus the potential for our global society to have a better tomorrow is more firmly within our grasp. We live in exciting times. Education has never stood a better chance at forward progress than it does now. Built primarily for the K-8 environment, it’s an excellent tool for helping to create connections between parents and teachers, thanks to its many tools available in one beautifully designed app. With Bloomz, teachers can save time in their communication with parents by easily send real-time messages, share pictures, schedule parent-teacher conferences and even sign up parents for volunteer opportunities, all made easy through a web or mobile app. Focused on helping teacher’s improve their communication with parents, the people behind the app have recently launched a series of additions to their product, from easier ways to sign up for it (class codes, SMS/Text integration), to increased teacher controls (posts scheduling, parent to parent communication control) and accessibility (content translation). Despite their young life (the service was only made available to the public in February of 2015), Bloomz has already been featured in various publications and gained teacher praise from all over, and is an EdTech Award winner.
