YOU WILL LOVE THEM. While selfies and viral videos may not seem all that altruistic, they are now, with a social entrepreneurship opportunity not to miss: Chegg and Pencils of Promise (PoP) recently announced a 10-day internship program that will send 8 winning students on the trip of a lifetime in mid-July 2014. First, the winners will head to NYC to visit the PoP headquarters to learn about building a for-purpose business, and second to Guatemala to put their new-found knowledge to work by building a school for young students. The internship program will give students social entrepreneurship experiences that will positively impact their college career and build the skills they need to be successful in the workplace after graduation. The contest is open to U.S. college students and applying is simple. Students take and submit a photo of themselves showing how they do good either on campus or in their community by February 17th and then encourage their friends and peers to vote. The top 50 finalists will then be asked to submit a 90-second video to further explain why they should be one of the 8 to participate in the internship program. The 50 semi-finalists will be announced in March, and video entries will be accepted in the Spring. Chegg and PoP will select the 8 winners.
